New Dance Company is directed by two of Stockton's finest dance choreographers and educators.

Lisa Rie,
Co-Artistic Director

Lisa Rie is a founding member, choreographer and Co-Director for New Dance Company. Born and raised in Berkeley, she began her early dance training with the East Bay Ballet Theatre. She attended the University of the Pacific where she studied with the Pacific Dance Ensemble and earned a BA in International Studies and Spanish. She has a Multiple Subjects Credential from CSU Stanislaus, is a Teacher-Leader for the Valley Sierra California Arts Project, and has taught for the Columbia and Amador Fine Arts Camps and ArtworksYES! Lisa has performed and choreographed for numerous organizations including the Stockton Symphony, Stockton Chorale, Haggin Museum, Tidewater Gallery, Reynolds Gallery, Downtown Art Walk, Stockton Showcase of Culture, Linden High School, Stockton Senior Showcase, "Dance As Is" in Davis and San Francisco's Dance and Music Collaboration, Vision Series and Dancing Poetry Festivals. She is passionate about collaboration with other artists and presents new works regularly. Lisa is equally passionate and committed to her work as a teacher at the one.TLC School for homeless students. She is a Co-Director for Stockton's ValleyDance Festivals and was a presenter at the 2007 National Dance Educators  Association in Mobile, Alabama. Lisa is a 2010 recipient of the Stockton Arts Commission Outstanding Achievement in Dance award. 


Ana Frenes-Sobaszkiewicz,

Ana Frenes

Ana received a BA in Dance from University of the Pacific and Cal State Long Beach. She received an MA in Arts Education from CSU Sacramento.  She has completed a Single Subject Credential in Physical Education from UOP.  She studied Modern Dance extensively in the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles. She has instructed dance and choreographed for the University of the Pacific Dance Department, Private Industry Theatre Project, San Joaquin Delta College Dance department, CSU East bay faculty concerts, the Central Valley Winter guard Circuit and Stockton Unified School District Magnets Arts Programs.  Ana was nominated for the DeWar’s Young Artist award and has received a Willy award from Stockton Civic Theatre for choreography.  She is presently the director of dance at Franklin High School.  She has been a member of New Dance Company since 1998 as a performer, choreographer and Co-Artistic Director.  She was a Co-Director for the San Joaquin ValleyDance Festivals 2007 thru 2010 and a presenter at the 2009 National Dance Educators Association in Mobile, Alabama. She is a 2010 recipient of the Stockton Arts Commission Outstanding Achievement in Dance award.  She presently studies Argentine Tango in the Bay Area and is completing a teacher certification in Yoga.
